88” ( h)  x 14” (w) x 16” (d)

Plastic, bone, and shell beads, copper tubing and wire, deer skin, and pre-produced plastic ear

Linda Vallejo, Artist Statement

"This series of giant earrings is drawn from my experiences in Native American traditional ceremony and Aztec 'danza.' I was inspired by Oldenburg's oversized sculptures to "pull forward" these traditional experiences in creating an image that addresses the contemporary and postmodern need for the 'super- sized.' The beads used in these works can be the size of silver dollars or quarters. Hundreds of yards of copper wiring were used to complete the 7 foot tall+ Peyote Earring which includes thousands of beads woven in a traditional 'peyote' stitch."
