Necessary Positions: An Intergenerational Conversation

Sunday August 20th, 2006

An open conversation on feminism, art, gender, and politics directed by Suzanne Lacy, sixteen artists from various generations pose questions to each other and the audience. Representing four decades of women artists, participants include d Andrea Bowers, Anoka Faruqee, Mary Kelly, Emily Roysdon, Barbara Smith, Haruko Tanaka, Linda Vallejo, and others.

Informal but stimulating, these exchanges reveal ed the variety of ways in which women artists understand and interpret feminism through their work. The audience  was integral to this dialogue and  was encouraged to participate.

In addition, Jerri Allyn  offered a brief dedication to Arlene Raven, noted feminist art historian who died this month at the age of 62. Raven was an influential figure in the women's and lesbian art movements in Los Angeles.
