This exhibition explores the notion of holistic healing outside of Western biomedicine. Viewers will be introduced to Native American healing philosophies, Latino folk medicine, indigenous cosmologies, magical beliefs and urban stories of sickness and healing and discover how art can be a source of healing. These "urban healing visions" tell stories that remind us of our human connection to nature and the need to restore balance and harmony with all relations. "Balancing Beliefs: Urban Healing Visions by LA. Artists will be on view in the UCLA Department of Art's New Genres Installation Room S. 153 from April 26 - April 30, 2004 and will travel to The Avenue 50 Studio in Highland Park from May 8- June 6, 2004 which will include more works and public programming. The New Genres Installation Room South 153 is located in the UCLA Department of Art at 11000 Kinross Avenue, 1 block north of Wilshire, on Kinross between Gayley and Veteran in Westwood Village. Admission is free. Gallery hours: Monday - Friday 10 am - 9 pm. Artists' reception on April 3rd, 2004 will be open to the public. Parking is available for $7 in Lot 32 and is $4 after 5pm.
